What Survives The Frost
In the aftermath of the Great War, a dystopian society has emerged in the ruins of Chicago. Humanity is plagued by the lasting effects of a biological weapon known as Agent BD which causes rapid brain decay. Citizens must undergo government-controlled brain transplants to survive. The population is starkly divided between the wealthy elite living within the walled city run by the Elders and the struggling sector workers who toil endlessly to support them.
At the heart of this turmoil is Cassandra "Caz" Thompson, a fiercely independent 24-year-old woman facing societal pressures as she approaches her 25th birthday. The government has matched her with a suitor based on mandatory genetic testing for procreation, aimed at ensuring the continuation of the human population and ridding it of brain decay. Determined to forge her own path, Caz resists this fate and becomes entangled in an underground resistance movement after discovering her older brother's forbidden relationship and tragic fate.
Caz's world collides with Emmett Beckham, a member of the ruthless Reaper Society who provide black market brain transplants to those desperate enough to risk everything for survival. When a traumatic event forces Caz and Emmett to share a consciousness, they must navigate their forced situation and work together to find a way to save both of their lives and those they love. While trying to uncover a way to separate their consciousness, they discover the government's sinister secrets. As they expose the regime's lies, their animosity transforms into an unexpected bond, igniting a powerful rebellion against oppression. Together, Caz and Emmett rally to dismantle the systems that govern their lives, facing high-stakes challenges that will ultimately determine the fate of society and humanity as they know it.
